On April 14, 2021,IPIEF had the opportunity to invite and receive material from Prof. Magdalena Osinska. She is a professor of economics from the University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Torun, Poland. On this occasion, she conveyed about the economy in the European Union, how the European Union affects the economies of its member countries. The European Union is a unique political and economic unit of countries consisting of 27 countries. This is one of Europe’s big steps from previously relying only on the economies of their respective countries which are prone to conflicts with one another. The European Union in its agreement has its own political and economic power and regulates it for the welfare of its members, as evidenced by the existence of the ESCB (the European system of central banks). She also talks a lot about the benefits of her country’s membership, namely Poland in the European Union.

Besides that prof. Magdalena also explained a glimpse of the history of the establishment of the European Union, GDP or income of European Union member countries, to the shape of the economy in the European Union. The concept of a converged economy is not left behind to discuss, and also an explanation of the inflation chart as well as the exchange of dollars against the euro and vice versa as a depiction of the European Union economy. As a conclusion at the end of her presentation she concluded in a sentence “After this pandemic, the European Union must find new objectives and policy instruments in the short term to tackle inequality and coordinate country specific goals with trade union objectives”.

This activity was closed with the hope of collaborating in research and also exchanging both student experiences and more intense knowledge in the future between the two campuses, or the faculty more specifically.
