Human Capital Definition

Human capital encompasses the education, health, work skills, migration, and information that, when combined, allow populations to engage with different livelihood strategies and reach their own objectives.  At the household level human capital is a factor, which determines the quantity and quality of the available workforce (DFID, 1999).  – Human capital is the attributes of a person that are productive in some economic context.

How to develop Human Capital? 

Direct support can focus on the accumulation of human capital:

  • Concerning the development of infrastructure for health, education or training
  • Concerning capacity building in staff involved in the health, education or training sectors
  • Concerning the development of relevant experience and skills among the most vulnerable population groups.

Indirect support (via structures and process for transformation) can include:

  • Reforming policies linked to health, education or training.
  • Reforming organizations working with health, education or training.
  • Promoting positive changes in local institutions (such as culture or norms) which limit access to health, education or training to specific social groups, such as women

Measurement of Human Capital

The Human Capital Index is a report prepared by the World Bank.  The Index measures which countries are best in mobilizing the economic and professional potential of its citizens.  The index measures how much capital each country loses through lack of education and health.  The Index is grounded on the three dimensions are as follows:

Well – being Definition

There is no consensus around a single definition of well being , but there is general agreement that at minimum , well being includes the presence of positive emotions and moods ( e.g. , contentment , happiness ) , the absence of negative emotions ( e.g. , depression , anxiety ) , satisfaction with life , fulfillment and positive functioning .

Subjective well – being refers to an individual’s cognitive and affective evaluation of his or her life , ranging from emotional reactions to events to cognitive judgments of satisfaction and fulfilment , from momentary moods to global judgments of life satisfaction , and from depression to euphoria ( Diener , 2000 ) . subjective well-being is usually used as a synonym for the colloquial term “happiness”.

Steps to improve Well – being include:

  • Reduction in mortality and morbidity ,
  • Provision of primary health care ,
  • Improving physical , mental and social well being and
  • Provision of primary health care- to all sections of the population ie it must be equally distributed accessible and acceptable to all at a cost country and community can afford

6 Dimension of Well – being

  • Having stability in life ( work , food , land , residence )
  • Availability and management of resources and the environment .
  • Environmental safety and toxins
  • Holistic healthy
  • Career succession and traditions in the community
  • Security in the family and community

8 Dimension of Happiness

Happy body , Happy heart , Happy relax , Happy brain , Happy soul , Happy money , Happy family , and Happy society .

Conclusion

KKU personal were the happiest in happy society and happy soul dimension , however the personal with the lowest in happy relax and happy brain The results from MRA showed that there were 9 variables that had positive influenced on the happiness of personal , including organizational engagement , relationship with colleagues , work life balance , being accepted by colleagues , job satisfaction , self – esteem , academic position , female status and perception of organizational culture .
