Guest Lecture Dr. Fouad Bin Amin from King Saud University, Riyadh Saudi Arabi and discuss about Microfinance Institutions and Viability of Waqf Based Islamic Microfinance Program

IPIEF welcomes an international guest lecture from Saudi Arabia as a part of its international agenda on April 12, 2021. This lecture was held online. The speaker is Dr. Fouad Bin Amin. He is an assistant professor at King Saud University. His expertise is on Development Economics, Islamic Economics, Islamic Banking and Finance. In essence, the topic that Dr. Fouad was sharing was on Microfinance Institution and Viability of Waqf based Islamic Microfinance Program. He devided the topic into three major sub-topics; first sub-topic is on Islamic Microfinance, second is on Waqf Institution and the third is on Integrated Waqf based on Islamic Microfinance Model.

At the end of his presentation, Dr. Fouad concluded his lecture by giving some key points of his lecture:

  1. Financial flow and real transaction (skills, motivation and infrastructure) must be ensured.
  2. Waqf, zakat and charity funds from client’s current deposit, issuing bonds and waqf certification.
  3. Takaful enhances cooperation, brotherhood apart from social security.
  4. Variation in IWIMM (full or partial supply of fund)
  5. Venture capital concept applied in “Project Financing.”
  6. Involvement of Islamic MFI and Islamic NGO.

In closing his lecture, Dr. Fouad shared that it is his honor to be able to share his knowledge with the participants and it is his greatest hope that all participants would expand on the knowledge that they received from his lecture.
