Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia—Complete dedication and untiring perseverance have played a substantial role in the success of Nun Maziyyah, IPIEF student batch 2016, who was recently appointed to be one of Indonesian delegates to participate in a highly prestigious event, known as Asia Pacific Future Leader Conference 2017: The Next Leaders for Sustainable Development Goals.

That seminal conference is aimed to provide the future leaders from Asia Pacific countries a discussion forum in which they could discuss critically the issues associated with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that has been a universal agenda adopted by world leaders since September 2015, built on the successes of its predecessor, Millennium Developments Goals (MDGs) and hence come up with the comprehensive solution to adopt in the future.

When interviewed on Tuesday (12/12), Maziyyah explained this international event which has been organized by Asia Pacific Leader Initiative and International Student in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Universities and Malaysian Tourism Centre on December 6-10, 2017 was extremely selective since there were about 1000 applicants enrolling in this conference and yet only 300 students from Asia Pacific, including Nun Maziyyah, were selected to be the delegations of their own countries.

“Having focused on the issues of SDGs, this agenda had several activities such as SDGs Project, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), Global Mindset and Leadership. Those forums were designed to ensure the implementation of SDGs in the more practical way that will be carried out by us as the future leader,” said Maziyyah.

She added, saying: “Recent decades have seen many catastrophic disasters from forest, termed deforestation that has mainly been caused by illegal logging done by the people. Such an irresponsible action not only damaged the local environment but also negatively impacted the public health, food, water security and so forth. As a consequence, we are now living in the planet vulnerable to the environmental crisis as well as the climate change that may bring about a stagnation in development, if left unchecked.”

Director of IPIEF, Dimas Bagus Wiranatakusuma, M.Ec, fully supports the students of IPIEF to engage in the numerous international agendas for enhancing their intellectual capacity, emphasizing: “To achieve its vision, which is to be a reputable international program on Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance in ASEAN, IPIEF will always encourage its students to participate and to take part in the international event such as Asia Pacific Leader Conference and other prestigious agendas to gain valuable experience and in the future it is expected they can dedicate to the nation.” [Aw]
