Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (FEB UMY) has established the International Student Society (ISS FEB UMY) organization to support international students in their academic and personal endeavors. The organization aims to create a welcoming environment that fosters cross-cultural understanding and promotes inclusivity among international students, faculty members, the local community and the local students.

At the inaugural meeting of the ISS FEB UMY, held on March 31st, 2023, attendees were treated to a warm welcome from Prof. Rizal Yaya, the dean of the faculty, who emphasized the importance of embracing diversity and promoting cultural exchange. The meeting also featured a discussion with FEB’s international students led by Dr. Dimas Bagus Wiranatakusuma, the director of the International Program for Islamic Economics and Finance (IPIEF), who shared his experiences as an international student.

The meeting also included iftar, a traditional meal to break the fast during the holy month of Ramadan, where attendees enjoyed various kinds of delicious foods and drinks. This was a great opportunity for international students to experience the local culture and foods.

The ISS FEB UMY will be responsible for organizing various events and activities that connect international students with the local community and faculty members. Through these events, international students will have the opportunity to learn about Indonesian culture, share their own cultures, and make new friends. This initiative is a testament to FEB UMY’s commitment to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for its international students.

The establishment of ISS FEB UMY is a significant step towards breaking down barriers and building bridges between international students and the local community at FEB UMY. By promoting cross-cultural understanding, the ISS FEB UMY is helping to create a more welcoming and inclusive community for all. The iftar was also attended by the director of International program of accounting (IPAcc) and International program of management and business (IMaBs) as well as 9 inbound students from Karatay University (KTO) and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
