The Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY) officially provided a 20 percent reduction in the cost of the Education Administration Contribution (SPP), as well as the exemption of electricity, bandwidth and Student Activity Unit (UKK) fees for active students in the odd semester of 2020/2021. This decision was officially issued by the UMY Rector, Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P., IPM, Tuesday (2/6).
“As a manifestation of our concern for children, we try to look back at the minimum limit of needs that can be run. Finally, we decided on, (ie) with SPP relief, free of bandwidth, electricity and student activities. It turned out that campus activities could still work; the campus could still provide programs to the community and can still develop the campus itself,” he said, Tuesday at UMY.
The lecturer of the UMY Faculty of Agriculture also said that this decision was taken for the good of all people of UMY. In addition, this policy is implemented so that all campus activities and programs can run.
“We must understand the negative impact of COVID-19, because not only students are affected. We also have to think about the education staff and lecturers. In addition, UMY’s social programs must continue to run,” he added.
Gunawan also added that the tuition waivers are valid for old students who are pursuing undergraduate studies (S1) and the Vocational Program. So, for the next semester, the learning process will only use online methods.
“Online lectures (online) will be held until the end of this year. Meanwhile, student work such as research and practicum is possible with specific restrictions and specific health protocols that we will hold in January 2021,” he said. (Ak)
