Allah has warned humans in Surah Al-Asr verses 1-3 (For the sake of time), that we should not waste time. Because time is like a sword that can cut our heads at any time, if we don’t pay attention to the time carefully.

This was conveyed by the Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto MP., IPM., In the Kultum ahead of the first Tarawih prayer in the holy month of Ramadan 1442 H, at the KH. Ahmad Dahlan Mosque of UMY, Monday (12/4). “Don’t ever waste time if you don’t want to get a loss,” he explained.

Advances in technology have proven that the dimensions of space and time have been defeated by human reason. With the advancement of telecommunications equipment, advances in electronic technology, we can see events that occur outside of our control space.

For example, we can see events that occur hundreds or even thousands of kilometers at the same time. However, time is not a power which can be controlled at will. “We cannot repeat what happened an hour ago, we will never know what will happen 10 minutes later. This happens because human beings are full of weaknesses, “added Gunawan.

Through this Al-Asr surah, Gunawan said that with time, the quality of humans is divided into three. First, humans are given smart minds to be able to find out ‘how to know’. Second, a smart man does what he knows ‘how to do’. And third, humans must be smart in choosing ‘how to choose’.

“Western people say ‘Life is too short’. Because our job is only to choose, whether we will choose to be successful people or not, whether we choose to be people who believe or deny it. So as much as possible, we should have these three qualities, “he explained.

Therefore, life is about a choice, and everything comes back to each other. We can take lessons in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 183, which teaches us to be pious.

“Taqwa is a believer who works on three levels; obedient, consistent, commitment. Let’s do that, to become a quality human being,” concluded Gunawan. (Hbb)
