IPIEF welcomes a Visiting Professor from India

As part of internationalization agenda, IPIEF welcomes a visiting professor from India. He is a renowned scholar who continously dedicates himself on Islamization of knowledge. Professor Hamidullah Marazi was invited and spoke on a part of islamization of science, namely zakah as a tool for sustainable development. He elaborates on what some Islamic scholars arguments on zakah distribution and development. In short, he stresses that zakah must be able to transform the Muslim Ummah towards more prosper and impacful. He argues that nowaday we cannot merely relay on government rules since zakah is a social fund, but needs to be utilized professionally and socially impactful.

 

Finally, he proposes some solutions concerning on how zakah in consonant with sustainable development, including:

 

1. Setting up survey on zakat potential at international level

2. Setting up international regulatory body which will globally manages and utilizes zakah as an international acceptable instrument in alleviating social problems among muslim countries

3. Designing a comprehensif model for transforming the recipients into payers

4. Conferring Islamic scholars around the globe for gathering ideas in strengthening the role of zakah as instrument for development

5. Increasing a number of literatures concerning zakah, written by academia in spreading out the ideas and followed by stretagic action.

 

He ends the presentation by reminding us that the Muslim Ummah requires to develop its own instrument – zakah- which has been given by Allah and ordained in the Holy Quran.
