Yogyakarta—One of IPIEF students, Sunan Parakitri Murpratomo (IPIEF 2016) and his team Afdal Syafe’I (Management 2016), had won a second position in the capital market national competition, known as UNNES Capital Market Competition (UCMC) that had annually been held by Universitas Negri Semarang. This competition seemed to be a prestigious agenda, given the fact that teams participating in this competition came from roughly 60 universities.
This competition had started by conducting online assessment, namely trading competition, which had been held for about five days starting from 16-20 October 2017. In this early phase of competition, there were 162 teams from 60 universities who took part in it. There were four steps in this competition, Sunan said. He added, saying: “the first step was trading competition in which every team had been given amount of capital to be invested. The more the team earned the profit, the greater the possibility to be selected to participate in the next step.” There were only 12 teams who passed the first stage as they gained more profit than other groups, and chosen to compete in the final session.
The final phase, as Sunan emphasized, consisted of roughly two competitions: the first was written test that must be done by both team (multiple choice) and individual (lucky test). The teams who can successfully pass that test would be chosen to present their analysis in oral presentation. Of 12 teams, six teams could face the written test and was selected to presentation.
In the final session, Sunan and his team could defeat other team from Universitas Gadjah Mada and achieve the second winner in this competition. The first winner was team of Universitas MH Thamrin, followed by Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta and Universitas Gadjah Mada as second and third winner, respectively.
Finally, Sunan urged Economics students to study intensively capital market since there will be a great chance in the future to be capital market analyst, stressing: “capital market is a potential market that vast majority of our society still avoided to be the investor in such a market. In addition, there are many promising careers for economics student, not only to become banker but also capital market analyst. More importantly for those who are interesting in Islamic capital market, there will be plenty of opportunity to pursue a brilliant career”. [Aw]
