IPIEF FEB UMY Strengthened Collaborations with Islamic Universities in Makassar

Makassar—In recent years, IPIEF has collaborated closely with domestic and international universities on the academic agendas. Earlier this month, Director of IPIEF, Dimas Bagus Wiranatakusuma M.Ec has visited two Islamic universities in Makassar, South Sulawesi on Tuesday (5/12), both were Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (well known as UNISMUH) and Universitas Muslim Indonesia (UMI) to exchange the ideas and share the experiences related to the development of their institutions particularly Department of Economics.

Taken place in Iqra’ Building 17th floor, Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, this formal visit was attended by Rector and Vice Rector of UNISMUH. Explaining the history of the campus that has 17 Faculties and 33 Departments ranging from exact to social sciences, the Rector said that, “This campus was initially established in June 19, 1963 as a branch of Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta. Moreover, the establishment of this university had basically been based on the outcome produced in 21st Muhammadiyah Regional Meeting (Musyawarah Wilayah Muhammadiyah) of South Sulawesi held in Bantaeng.” He then explained the enormous efforts that have to be made in initiating the International Program as this university is now attempting to institute such an international class for students.

Besides the visit conducted in UNISMUH, Director of IPIEF has also scheduled the meeting with the representatives of Universitas Muslim Indonesia (UMI), those were Head of Economics Department and Head of Management Department. Established in February 8th 1953, UMI has been one of the oldest universities in Makassar which now has 14 Faculties with 55 Departments. In this occasion, Director of IPIEF emphasized the need for fostering the collaboration between universities especially Islamic universities since there will be many academic and cutting-edge ideas to share in order to improve the intellectual capability of both students and lecturers.

This visit was undertaken at the same time as “Research Dissemination on Financial System Stability and the Source of new Economic Growth” which has been conducted by Bank Indonesia Makassar. In this agenda, Director of IPIEF and three Economics students of UMY, Wahyu Charisma (Economics batch 2016), Ariandi (Economics batch 2016), Mufti Ramdani (Management batch 2016) also presented their seminal paper on the resilience of Banking system.[Aw]
