Yogyakarta—Recently, International Program for Islamic Economics and Finance (IPIEF) has organized the social charity in conjunction with Ifthār that took place in Muhammadiyah’s Orphanage, named Panti Asuhan Muhammadiyah Al-Ghifari which is located in Kalimanjung, Ambarketawang, Gamping, Sleman. This agenda was held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 and attended by approximately 40 persons, consisting of about 30 orphans.

The representative of IPIEF and Committee when arriving at the orphanage were warmly welcomed by Nur Kholis, Director of Panti Asuhan al-Ghifari.

When interviewed on (25/5), Director of IPIEF, Dimas Bagus Wiranatakusuma Ph.D who also attended this social agenda emphasized that the primary objective of this event is to provide the students with ample opportunity for empowering  community, in this case, the orphans. “IPIEF has four missions, one out of them is to dedicate and empower people in order to help them achieve long-term prosperity. To this end, IPIEF is now trying to push the social activities we organized to this direction in order to meet not only IPIEF mission but also Tri Dharma of Higher education.”

In line with what has been set out by IPIEF, Fikri Maududi, President of Islamic Economics Students Association (IESTAC) stressed that it is now very crucial for IPIEF students to be engaged with the social activities that aims to empower and improve quality of our community, saying: “The students must have a greater awareness of social problems faced by the needy, including the orphans. As enshrined in the Holy Qur’an, there are several verses which explained about yatāmā , the orphans to whom we have to pay zakah and give shadaqah. Hence, we as students have to commit to address this by conducting long-term social program in this orphanage. IESTAC is expected to be capable of organizing such a community empowerment program in the near future. Insya Allah.

In this occasion, Zaini Muchlis LS. MIRKH, Lecturer at IPIEF, also explained that there were many necessities needed by the orphans, notably al-Qur’an, which has been given to them, supporting them in memorizing Qur’an. He added, saying: ”The sizeable donation was collected from various sources encompassing lecturers and parents of IPIEF students. Alhamdulillah, their help has indeed supported this agenda. May Allah bless and always guide you.”

Finally, Nur Cholis thanked all students and donators who have enabled many students (orphans) to always memorize al-Qur’an. [Aw]
