Gontor, Ponorogo—The collaborative programme has been of a great concern among universities nowadays not only to uphold the academic tradition but also to ensure a close coordination in dealing with the challenges ahead. Faculty of Economics and Management, Universitas Darussalam (UNIDA), a boarding school-based university and International Program for Islamic Economics and Finance (IPIEF) therefore have initiated a joint programme in which both universities can mutually reinforce a prior engagement with a more novel concept. Moreover, conducting such a programme among Islamic higher institutions intended to achieve the similar vision is deemed crucial since there will be more daunting challenges in the future that need to be overcome.
That address has been emphasized by Dean of Faculty of Economics and Management, Darussalam University (UNIDA), Khoirul Umam, M.Ec, when delivering the speech to welcome the representatives of IPIEF on (27/11). He also stressed that while UNIDA may have adopted the different education system compared to UMY—because it has been adhering to the Pesantren system wherein all of students enrolling in this university have to live inside the campus, it is highly important still to ensure the collaboration with any other Islamic institutions.
Dimas Bagus Wiranatakusuma, M.Ec., Director of IPIEF, responded accordingly, saying: “We are very grateful to hear that UNIDA, particularly Faculty of Economics and Management has the similar vision as us, since there are many academic agendas that can jointly be conducted in order to enhance the development of Islamic economics and to improve the intellectual capacity of the students.” He added, “IPIEF has first attempted since its establishment in 2009 to foster the cooperation with UNIDA and always continued to do so. However, such an agreement we have can be expanded by carrying out many programmes including student mobility programme, visiting lecturers, joint research and joint supervision for undergraduate thesis.”
Furthermore, Director IPIEF outlined that it will be possible, by organizing student mobility programme , for the students of UNIDA especially those studying Islamic Economics to attend the course in IPIEF UMY and the other way around. He then emphasized: “the similar concept may also be applied in visiting lecturers in which the lecturers of IPIEF are able to teach Islamic economics students of UNIDA several courses. More importantly, by initiating the joint research, both Departments will be capable of improving the quality of the research on the area that has not previously been studied by each department, offering the wider perspective in the researches on Islamic finance.”
This auspicious agenda was attended by all Director programmes in Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) UNIDA, including Khoirul Umam, M.Ec (Dean of FEM), Royyan Ramdhani Djayusman, M.A (Head of Islamic Economics Department), Fajar Surya Ari Anggara, S.T.P., M.M. (Head of Management Programme), and the representatives of IPIEF were Dimas Bagus Wiranatakusuma, M.Ec (Director of IPIEF) and Zaini Muclish, MIRKH (IPIEF lecturer).
